Other newcomers at domestic box office this holidays include animated musical 'Sing', which lands on the runner-up spot, and James Franco-led comedy 'Why Him?', which debuts in the fifth place.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" remains strong at North American box office during the Christmas weekend. The "Star Wars" spin-off starring Felicity Jones as its central character named Jyn Erso still holds the throne in its second week by earning an additional $70 million.
Among newcomers this weekend is "Sing". The Universal animated musical featuring the voices of Matthew McConaughey, Seth MacFarlane, Tori Kelly and Scarlett Johansson lands on the runner-up spot with an estimated $34 million.
Meanwhile, other newcomers open soft at the domestic box office. Big-budget movies like Sony's "Passengers (2016)" and Fox's "Assassin's Creed" debut in the third and fourth places respectively, while Fox's comedy movie "Why Him?", which production budget was at around $38 million, opens in the fifth place.
The Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt-starring movie earns a disappointing $26 million against its production budget of $120 million, while the video game-based action flick which stars Michael Fassbender is estimated to collect only $10.6 million on its massive production budget of $200 million. As for the James Franco and Bryan Cranston-led comedy, it bags approximately $9.8 million.
