Ha Ji Won and Jo In Sung's Drama 'What Happened in Bali' to Get a Remake in 2018

A source says a remake of the 2004 hit drama series is being developed with original producing director Choi Moon Suk set to direct the new series.

"What Happened in Bali" is getting a remake, more than ten years after it was first released. Words are a new version of the hit SBS drama starring Ha Ji Won and Jo In Sung is being developed for a potential 2018 airing.

A so-called insider told Ilgan Sports, "SBS' 'What Happened in Bali', which aired in 2004, will be reborn as a 2018 version." It was further reported that the remake would be directed by Choi Moon Suk, who served as producing director on the original series.

Responding to the story, a source from production company A STORY explained, "We're working on improving the script, but we haven't decided on a remake yet." Another source from the company issued a conflicting statement which read, "The remake scheduled for next year is our company's first production. No other details have been finalized yet."

"What Happened in Bali" is a melodrama about love and betrayal. At the center of the story is Lee Soo Jung (Ha Ji Won), an orphan who works as a tour guide in Bali. Jo In Sung starred as Jung Jae Min, an irresponsible, arrogant, childish, self-centered and a playboy of a rich family, who is engaged to Choi Young Joo (Park Ye Jin).

Through a fateful meeting, Soo Jung encounters Jae Min, Young Joo and Kang In Wook (So Ji Sub), who are involved in a love triangle, when Young Joo visits In Wook, her ex-boyfriend, in Indonesia. As Soo Jung becomes their tour guide, their complicated relationship begins.

The drama became a huge hit in South Korea and several other Asian countries. It catapulted its stars to international fame. Jo In Sung's scene in which his character is crying while talking on the phone is one of the most memorable scenes in Korean TV history.
