'Humans' star Gemma Chan has signed on to play a non-human role named Minn-Erva in Marvel's first female-led superhero film, 'Captain Marvel'.

In the comics-verse, Minn-Erva (a.k.a. Doctor Minerva) is a member of the Kree race and a scientist as well as a frequent nemesis of Captain Marvel's mentor, Mar-Vell, who was also Kree.
Gemma is best known for her role as a synthetic android, Mia, on AMC/Channel4's "Humans" which is going to air its third season this year. She will next be seen as Astrid, opposite Constance Wu in Warner Bros' adaption of "Crazy Rich Asians". She will also appear in Focus Features' "Mary, Queen of Scots" and in "Intrigo: Dear Agnes."
To be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, "Captain Marvel" centers on Danvers, an Air Force Pilot who debuted in the comics in 1968 as a human companion to the original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell). During an accident, Danver's DNA was fused with that of an alien. The fusion imbued her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection and flight. Minn-Erva had similar powers.
Other actors tapped to star in the movie include Jude Law as Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell, Samuel L. Jackson who will reprise his role as Nick Fury, and Raul Torres as a military soldier.
The movie is set to be released on March 8, 2019 in the United States.
