The 'Matrix' actor is eyed to star in Netflix's superhero film 'Past Midnight'.
Following its success with a slew of small-screen superheroes series such as "The Punisher", "Daredevil" and "Marvel's Jessica Jones", Netflix just won a bidding war for "Past Midnight". The film is to be written by TJ Fixman, directed by Rick Famuyiwa and produced by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, the directors of "Captain America: Civil War" and "Avengers: Infinity War". The deals for these people have been done and the team expects Keanu to join in.
The film's plot is still kept under wraps. However, it is said that the film is a new type of vigilante superhero story. If Keanu signs the deal, then people can see the "considerable discipline and range, easy movement between the buttoned-down demeanor that suits a police procedural story and the loose-jointed manner of his comic roles" of him again. He recently reprised his role as the title character in "John Wick: Chapter 2" (2017) and is expected to return for the third installment.
"Past Midnight" might be the next high-profile blockbuster from the streaming service and is the latest project for rising stars, TJ and Rick. TJ comes from a video game background. He has sold film projects including "One Night on the Hudson" to Universal, "The Lost" to New Line/21 Laps and "Gargoyles" to Disney.
Meanwhile, Rick has signed on to write and direct "Black Hole" which is based on Charles Burn's graphic novel. He also directed the pilot for Showtime's series "The Chi", which is based on the graphic novel of the same name.
