The NYPD has gathered significant evidence in the rape and sexual abuse case against the former movie mogul.
"We are still accumulating evidence, it's going very very well," Boyce said during the press conference. "We have a lot of information, we have people who are getting ready to go to grand jury." When asked what the next step that they would take, Boyce suggested that the questions should be addressed to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, saying, "It's his case right now."
Additionally, a police official with direct knowledge of the case told The Daily Beast, "We're ready to go with an arrest." The police department reportedly only needs an approval from Vance to arrest Weinstein.
The district attorney's office declined to comment on the case as of now.
According to the Daily Beast, the NYPD is investigating one "particularly strong" claim that has been reported in a media outlet. The police have also spoken to actresses Lucia Evans and Paz de la Huerta, The former claimed Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex when she met the former movie producer in 2004. She was a college student at the time. de la Huerta, meanwhile, publicly said that Weinstein raped her twice in 2010.
Detectives have also been dispatched to Los Angeles and Paris to interview a number of Weinstein's alleged victims. The long list of Weinstein's accusers also include Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan, Angelina Jolie, Cara Delevingne, Lea Seydoux, Lupita Nyong'o and Lena Headey.
Weinstein, through his lawyers, has repeatedly denied the accusations and has since been staying under the radar as he underwent rehab through the exclusive Meadows center in Wickenburg.
