'Westworld' Is Renewed for Season 2, but There's a Catch!

HBO has also ordered a second season of Sarah Jessica Parker's 'Divorce' and 'Insecure' starring Issa Rae.

HBO has given a vote of confidence to some of its freshman series. On Monday, November 14, the premium cable channel announced that its entire fall Sunday lineup, which includes "Westworld", "Divorce" and "Insecure", had been renewed for a second season of 10 episodes each.

While the two comedies, "Divorce" which is starring Sarah Jessica Parker and "Insecure" which is headlined by Issa Rae, will return in 2017, the sci-fi western series will not air its second season until late 2017 or the first half of 2018 due to its elaborate production.

Adapted from Michael Crichton's 1973 film of the same name, "Westworld" received critical acclaims and debuted to nearly 2 million viewers in live-plus-same-day returns for the supersized premiere. Season to date, the show is averaging 11.7 million total viewers, besting "Game of Thrones" and "True Detective" during their first season runs.

"We're thrilled that the saga of 'Westworld' will continue for another season," said co-creators/showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy in a statement. "During the lengthy journey to the screen, our incredibly talented actors, staff and crew became a family, and we look forward to the privilege of continuing this experience with them. We're also thankful to all of our amazing partners at HBO, WBTV and Bad Robot for their steadfast support, imagination and ambition. We simply couldn't have made this show anywhere else."

"Divorce", which marks SJP's return to HBO after "Sex and the City", is averaging 4.4 million viewers. It is also the most female-skewing show on the network along with "Girls". As for "Insecure", HBO's programming president Casey Bloys said that the show received "huge social media response from a passionate fan base." He added, "It represents a new voice, which was really important for us."
